A$AP Rocky Says He Manifested Rihanna at 16, and It Turns Out He Was Right

Call it destiny, call it faith, call it a teenage boy who refused to take no for an answer. A$AP Rocky says the love story that gave us one of music's most iconic couples started with a decision he made long before Rihanna ever knew his name.

In a nearly two-hour conversation on The Jason Lee Show, the Harlem rapper explained that when he was 16, watching Rihanna arrive on the scene with her 2005 debut single Pon De Replay, he told himself he would get her one day. Manifestation, he said, is no joke. He always thought she was beautiful, and he knew she was his speed.

The universe took its time. Rocky ran into Rihanna nearly six years later while trying to get into a club, and the friendship that grew from there eventually became the family they have today, with three children between them. He even revealed that his mother always wanted him with RiRi, proving once again that mothers tend to know best.

What came through most in the interview was not the manifestation line. It was the respect. Rocky described Rihanna as a strong Black woman who held him down at his lowest, showing up for him through the death of his father, his 2019 detention in Sweden and the legal case that ended in his acquittal in early 2025. Every time he hit bottom, he said, she was there. That is really my friend, he told the host.

Rocky also gave the fans something they have been waiting nearly a decade to hear. He confirmed that Rihanna is back in the studio, saying she is in there working right now. She is cooking, he added, before joking that he might be in trouble for letting the secret out. He did not offer a release date, but for a fan base that has not had a full album since 2016, even a hint is a gift.

The bigger takeaway is a beautiful one. A young Black man spoke his future into existence, then built it on friendship, loyalty and genuine partnership. He manifested the dream, and then he showed up to be worthy of it.
