The DMV's creator economy is getting its own block party, and it is setting up shop right on the water. The Creator Carnival, presented by Cult Content and Unskrypted, takes over National Harbor on Friday, September 12, for a full day built around the people turning content, culture, and community into real business.
The scale is the pitch. Organizers are promising more than 1,000 creators and innovators and over 100 businesses and brands in one place, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at National Harbor, the Maryland waterfront destination just outside DC. The day is designed to put the region's creators, entrepreneurs, brands, funders, and industry leaders in the same rooms, around culture, commerce, and opportunity.
The vision comes from Folasade Ogunmokun, the founder of Unskrypted TV, a DC-based shoppable media network that connects creators, businesses, and culture through television, streaming, live events, and commerce.
A Howard University alumna, Ogunmokun has built her work around helping local creators and businesses gain visibility, connect with brands, and turn their creativity into income, and the Creator Carnival is that mission scaled up to a full-day event.
It is a group effort. The celebration is powered by a lineup of hosts, creators, and partners, alongside the presenting teams at Cult Content and Unskrypted, who together are positioning the Carnival as more than a meetup, framing it as a landing spot for the DMV's creative class to connect, collaborate, and get seen.
The timing fits a bigger shift. The creator economy has become one of the fastest-growing corners of business, and Black creators have long driven culture online while too often being cut out of the checks that follow. An event that gathers a thousand of them in one place, in the DMV, led by a Howard graduate, is a statement that this region intends to be a hub, not an afterthought.
The Creator Carnival takes place September 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at National Harbor. Tickets and full details are at events.cultcontent.cc/creator-carnival.
